Buying a Home in San Diego

It’s fun to browse real estate listings online, but what happens when you find one you love? If you’ve never purchased a home or condo before, the process can seem a bit daunting. Viewing homes, writing offers, getting a loan, inspections…

“Rob, where do I start?”

I’ll outline the home-buying process below, but if you have specific questions about buying a home in the San Diego area and would rather have a conversation with an actual human being (hi, I’m Rob, and I’m a real person!), you can give me a call at (619) 535-8201 or fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page and I’ll get in touch with you to answer questions and explain the process. (If you’re outside of the San Diego area, I’d be happy to help connect you with a real estate pro in your neck of the woods, too.)

Step 1: Getting Preapproved for a Home Loan

The first step in the home buying process is to get preapproved for a mortgage (home loan). This is critical before you start shopping for homes so that you know you’re looking in the right price range and you’re ready when you find a home you love. You can read more about getting preapproved or you can start the preapproval process.
